Published in 1941, Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey has long been a beloved children's
book.
In 1985, Boston sculptor
Nancy Schöen
was commissioned by The Friends of the Boston Public Garden to translate Mr. McCloskey's work into bronze so
that the public could touch and feel Mrs. Mallard and her eight ducklings.
Two years later in 1987, the bronze sculpture was installed in the Public Garden on old cobblestones. It continues
to delight children as they hug, kiss, climb on and feed the ducks.
